  • Group of friends

the location right next to were we needed to be and next to the train station. Breakfast was good too!

dirty, horrible, cold, needs a complete revamp!! dirty dirty dirty. Broken window, can hear trains all night through the single glazed partly open windows.

  • Older travelers

Booked for 1 night mainly due to location, we didnt expect much after reading the reviews and they were right !! Stayed in room 15, dark and cramped. Wobbly toilet and view that looked out onto a fire escape. Some sort of boiler/generator kicked in at 6am right outside the window. Breakfast i think had been reheated, bacon like bullets !!

  • Group of friends

Friendly staff comfortable hotel with a great location to the shops and harbour ,and good parking facilities .And a good B/fast .

    The old fashioned lift

  • Single

It's location - opposite Gunwharf Quay and by the ferries to the Isle of Wight and Gosport. Given it's position it was also surprisingly quiet; I had a good night's sleep. The breakfast was also good and plentiful.

I've stayed in worst budget, solo traveller hotels ... but I've also stayed in better. Maybe a bit more attention to decor might help. And some towel rails in the bathroom (mine had none so there was nowhere to hang my damp towel).

  • Single

A nice large room - I had booked a double to get more space - and despite being close to the harbour and bus/rail station was quiet on second floor.

A bit trad/old fashioned in the breakfast choices as I don't eat meat and they seemed a bit non-plussed when I asked if eggs were free range - but they did some very good kippers and found me a tub of plain yoghurt from under the counter.... Venerable old lift which made me think of Die Hard 2 and feared getting stepping out of the door into the lift shaft....But actually ok!

  • Group of friends

Free parking facility, superb location, helpfulness and attitude of staff, provision of bar and a good breakfast.

Due to location noise from outside, but this was overcome by use of earplugs. A bit run down but not to the extent that it marred the stay ( one night).

  • Couple

was made to feel very welcome, friendly staff nothing was to much bother, lovely spacious rooms oldey worldy feel, rooms very naval!great breakfast good value for money,we will deffinatley stay again!

  • Older travelers

ideal location for our purpose, great service, exelent breakfast, great view from our room everything worked

decoration could have been better but good atmophere and a sense of history about the place

  • Group of friends

Receptionist was very helpful - took a lot of trouble. Bar was nice and so was the breakfast room. Breakfast was good.

Bed very hard - room 4, Breakfast order mixed up. Shower too hot - room 4. TV wouldn't work - room 15. View was hideous from room 4 as it was cigarette butts and grime. Room 4 booking was meant to be a twin room.

  • Older travelers

Good location - close to Shops, Restaurants, Docks etc

The hotel is generally very tired and shabby and could do with some serious redecoration. Also general cleanliness was not all it should be

  • Single

Friendly, well mannered staff. Great location for me to the port and station as it was just an overnight stop . Great that there were tea and coffee facilities in the room and TV very clean and comfortable ideal for me. Large room and clean bathroom.

Deco was a little bit tired in some areas of the hotel.

  • Family with children

Staff were very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was good and offered more toast and tea. Rooms were very spacious and beds comfortable.

    Just needs refurbishing/updating.

  • Family with children

The rooms were very comfortable and clean. Breakfast was first class and the waiter had excellent manners.

  • Older travelers

Stayed the one night as we were catching a coach at 5.45am the next day. John the duty manager was very welcoming and obliging. Room was spacious and very comfortable.Packed breakfast as we were leaving early - very good. An excellent stay all round.

  • Single

The breakfast was decent as were the staff. However, I wouldn't stay there again.

There were marks on the walls, the paint was peeling, around the toilet was stained, the shower was either boiling hot or freezing cold, outdated, dusty. There was also a gap at the bottom of my door, which was a little unnerving and meant every sound I made you could hear outside the room. The curtains were off the pole and in general the room was dank, and disgusting. I think if you're going to stay in the 1920s at least make the place look clean and painted. Ghastly décor.
